Veganism is not the opposition to animal suffering; veganism is the principle that humans should stop USING animals as a means to an end, the principle that humans should live without exploiting animals. UTILITARIAN WELFARISM is what veganism was born to end.
PD: by the way, we are not defending Kant's deontology; we are defending the principle of rejecting animal exploitation deontically; the principle of rejection of perceiving, and therefore, USING animals as mere means to human ends, instead of seeing them as ends in themselves who humans have NO RIGHT to exploit.
