The world is so accustomed to the objectification of animals that entire industries are built around feathers—fashion, decor, jewelry, pillows, blankets. But none of these are just things. This is the daily reinforcement of the idea that animals are resources for human use—the normalization of exploitation, repeated every day.
So maybe it was just a feather. But this is exactly where fundamental injustice begins. And if we’re not willing to stop ourselves here, even at this small point, how can we hope to resist other manifestations of the same mentality?
